Turning Research into Action

In eighth grade, three-time Carson Scholar Sydnee Shannon’s reading teacher asked each student to research a topic and produce a project based on that topic. Sydnee knew she wanted her project to help people, and decided to investigate hospitals in her area to find out what she could do. Jonece, who is in her senior year of high school, has been honored at the White House, received the Rensselaer Medal, participates in the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth, and was one of 75 students in the world to be invited to the Research Science Institute this past summer.
