April 30th

The DC Chapter of the Carson Scholars Fund is now open for business!

Dr. Roy Heron and his wife Barbara have taken it upon themselves to begin a chapter of the Carson Scholars Fund dedicated to serving the public and private schools in Washington, D.C. Efforts to gain awareness and supporters in the community have not gone unnoticed. Dr. Heron reports the addition of 38 community members who have shown a dedication to education by pledging to join his efforts in rewarding excellence in D.C.’s youth!

Clemson Aims for Diversity with Their Tuition Assistance Program!

Better teachers make batter students! Read about how you can recieve tuition assistance in order to become a teacher and lead today's youth!

 

The mission of the Call Me MISTER (acronym for Mentors Instructing Students Toward Effective Role Models) Initiative is to increase the pool of available teachers from a broader more diverse background particularly among the State's lowest performing elementary schools. Student participants are largely selected from among under-served, socio-economically disadvantaged and educationally at-risk communities.

CSF Board Member Recognized

CSF Board Member Audrey Jones received the Service Above Self Award last night at Martin’s West.  The Rotary Club of Woodlawn-Westview honored Mrs. Jones along with 32 other community minded individuals for their hard work and dedication to various charities.  Audrey’s work with Dr. Carson’s THINK BIG program and the CSF was recognized.  Congratulations and Thank you for all of your hard work, Audrey!

The Pittsburgh Awards Ceremony

An event honoring over 150 of Pittsburgh’s best and brightest, the 6th annual ceremony was packed to capacity, the largest ceremony in the history of the Pittsburgh Carson Scholars organization! Sally Wiggin of WTAE-TV channel 4 emceed the program for the 4th time.

Connecticut Scholars Shine!

After a very wet Friday, the sun broke through the clouds on Saturday, April 11, as members of the New Haven community congregated at Henry R. Luce Hall for the 2010 Carson Scholars Awards ceremony.

Meet the new members of the CSF team!

The Carson Scholars Fund welcomes Erin Durbin as Scholarship Services Coordinator and the newest member of our family. Erin is a Towson native and a graduate of University of Miami, where she double-majored in Advertising and Psychology. Now Erin is our resident Facebooker and Scholar Alumni Coordinator. Expect to hear from her soon about upcoming alumni events, and feel free to check in with her if you have any updates you’d like to share! She can be reached at Erin@carsonscholars.org.

The Fourteenth Annual Carson Scholars Awards Banquet

The fourteenth annual Carson Scholars Fund Awards banquet, emceed by legendary newscaster Sam Donaldson, was held Sunday, April 11th at Martin’s West in Baltimore. Over 400 of the best and brightest students were honored.  All met the high standards of academic excellence and positive humanitarian qualities of a Carson Scholar.
