Taking advantage of the cluster that Wellwood Elementary, Pikesville Middle and Pikesville High Schools make, the principals organized a joint honors ceremony for their scholars and to celebrate the success of the reading room of one of the "feeder" schools, Wellwood Elementary School. It was a sunny day, the first Monday in June, and visitors were escorted to the high school library, where a select group of students, parents, and community leaders gathered for this special ceremony.

Dr. Garth McDonald and his engaging wife Jennifer hosted a beautiful event in their charming home in Phoenix, MD on the evening of May 10. These dear friends of longtime Carson Scholar supporters, Eddie and Sylvia Brown, had more than 50 attendees drinking in the enchanting setting as the sun slowly sank behind the forest encircled site, as they partook of various culinary delights.

Great things happen in Dundalk!  Like so many elementary school Reading Room openings, the students of Norwood Elementary School sat enraptured, cross-legged on the floor of the gymnasium organized according to classes.  The morning of Thursday, May 13th saw many gathered for this historic event. President Obama believes in the capacity of young people to move America forward. He is committed to providing young leaders from across the nation an opportunity to develop their leadership skills and fostering a continued commitment to public service through the White House Internship Program. This hands-on pro­gram is designed to mentor and cultivate today’s young leaders, strengthen their understanding of the Executive Office of the President and prepare them for future roles in public service.

Gorgeous ocean views greeted an ecstatic group of academic revelers as the first California banquet  took place on May 19th at the exclusive Resort at Pelican Hill near Los Angeles.  Not only did Union Bank sponsor the event, but many of their high level officials were present in support of these newest high academic achievers associated with the Carson Scholars Fund.  Looking past the backdrop of the world class golf course, students, their parents and educators, and sponsors could see the majestic Pacific ocean as they made their selections from the gourmet buffet set up

Not one, not two, not three or even four!  But six Ben Carson Reading Rooms were opened simultaneously in Indianapolis on the morning of May 3^rd.  Through the magic of simulcasting and the accomplished technique of Dale Levitz of the Johns Hopkins Medical Video Production Department interfacing with Indianapolis public, private and charter schools,  all schools were able to participate....
