CSF Office Operating on a Holiday Schedule

In celebration of the holidays, the Carson Scholars Fund office will be operating on a holiday schedule from Friday, December 21st, 2012 until Wednesday, January 2nd, 2013. During this time if you have any scholarship-related questions, please email rebekah@carsonscholars.org.

Best Books for Kids - A Holiday Shopping Guide

booksAs a child, many of us have fond memories of being curled up with our favorite books – from fascinating new stories, to well-loved classics to engaging nonfiction.  This holiday season consider giving that special child in your life a meaningful gift of a book - guaranteed to make a lasting memory.  

To help take the guesswork out of selecting a book, the CSF has compiled a book list that will engage even the most reluctant readers.

New Technology in Gwynns Falls Reading Room

Through the generosity of the Verizon Foundation, state-of-the-art technology is now incorporated in the Ben Carson Reading Room at Gwynns Falls Elementary School. This morning, students and distinguished guests gathered for a rededication ceremony to kick off the pilot program. With the addition of iPads, e-readers, and an interactive white board, students now have the capability to enhance their learning experience.

Special Announcement – Hard Copy Applications Still Available!

Hard copy applications for the 2013 scholarship season are still available! If you are a school and don’t want to use the online application, there is still time to request a hard copy. Please do so as soon as you can so that the application can be mailed and arrive at your school before winter break.

Reading Room Updates

There have been a lot of exciting things happening with our reading room program!

Volunteers Needed – Help Select the Next Generation of Carson Scholars!

Every year, the Carson Scholars Fund processes and scores thousands of applications. We could not do this without the help of our dedicated volunteers. Last year, nearly 75 volunteers contributed over 800 hours of service, allowing us to successfully execute another scholarship season and nine scholar awards banquets. According to calculations by the Independent Sector, 800 hours of volunteer service is equivalent to $18,216! We cannot thank our volunteers enough!

Online Application Webinar Presentation Available!

You can download a copy of the 2013 Carson Scholar Application Webinar here.
This webinar covers all of the components of completing a successful CSF application. We recommend that student/their parents who have already been nominated by their school and/or school officials who have already nominated a student and want to be able to assist their students review this webinar.

Celebrating Ben Carson Reading Day!

Reading rooms across the nation celebrated the 7th Annual Ben Carson Reading Day on Monday, November 12th. In honor of Ben Carson Reading Day, Dr. Carson recorded a special message encouraging students to embrace books. Following the message, Dr. Carson narrated the children's book, America Is...
