Meet Our Interns!

Each year, the Carson Scholars Fund invites two scholars to join our staff as summer interns. We’re excited to welcome McKenzie and Matthew to the CSF team! Check out some of their favorite things and their plans for the future.

McKenzie Patrick

School: Franklin High School, Class of 2018
Year(s) Awarded the Carson Scholarship: 2011-2013
What are your career aspirations? I hope to pursue a career in the field of political science.
Favorite Book: Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card
Favorite Movie: The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
Favorite Food: Pizza
What’s a quote or a song that you can relate to? Peace of Mind by Boston
What has being a Carson Scholar meant to you? Being a Carson Scholar has given me the confidence to continue to strive for great things. It was encouraging to see that I could accomplish this and have my achievements acknowledged at such a young age.
Best piece of advice you’ve received: You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.

Matthew Kleiser

What are your career aspirations? I would like to become a doctor.
Favorite Book: Freakonomics by Stephen Dunbar and Steven Levitt

What is a quote or song that you can relate to? “Strive for excellence, not perfection.”
What has being a Carson Scholar meant to you? Being a Carson Scholar means that I am part of an outstanding group of students.
Best piece of advice you’ve received: Work hard and the benefits from such work will pay off.
