2010 Scholars Summer Celebration!

The Maryland Science Center was the setting for the Carson Scholars Fund’s 4th Annual Scholar Summer Celebration. Scholars and Alumni from all over Maryland and surrounding areas came together for the opportunity to network and show their support for the newly graduated Carson Scholars.

Honorfest in Pikesville

Taking advantage of the cluster that Wellwood Elementary, Pikesville Middle and Pikesville High Schools make, the principals organized a joint honors ceremony for their scholars and to celebrate the success of the reading room of one of the "feeder" schools, Wellwood Elementary School. It was a sunny day, the first Monday in June, and visitors were escorted to the high school library, where a select group of students, parents, and community leaders gathered for this special ceremony.

 

All for Future Leaders

Dr. Garth McDonald and his engaging wife Jennifer hosted a beautiful event in their charming home in Phoenix, MD on the evening of May 10. These dear friends of longtime Carson Scholar supporters, Eddie and Sylvia Brown, had more than 50 attendees drinking in the enchanting setting as the sun slowly sank behind the forest encircled site, as they partook of various culinary delights.

The mission of the Call Me MISTER (acronym for Mentors Instructing Students Toward Effective Role Models) Initiative is to increase the pool of available teachers from a broader more diverse background particularly among the State's lowest performing elementary schools. Student participants are largely selected from among under-served, socio-economically disadvantaged and educationally at-risk communities.
 

CSF Board Member Recognized

CSF Board Member Audrey Jones received the Service Above Self Award last night at Martin’s West.  The Rotary Club of Woodlawn-Westview honored Mrs. Jones along with 32 other community minded individuals for their hard work and dedication to various charities.  Audrey’s work with Dr. Carson’s THINK BIG program and the CSF was recognized.  Congratulations and Thank you for all of your hard work, Audrey!
