Antony is a remarkable scholar with a heart of gold. As a brain cancer survivor, Antony aspires to become a neurosurgeon so that he may be a ray of hope to those who have experienced what he has endured. Antony enjoys participating in the Key Club, Pinoy Club and Bible study group. His unshakable determination is uniquely matched with an optimistic approach to life.

Grade: 5

Anna is captain of the safety patrol team at school. As captain, she ensures that all students are at their designated posts and the environment is safe. When she is not patrolling the hallways, Anna is involved with the math team at school. In her spare time, Anna enjoys reading, as well as playing soccer and frisbee.

Corey Dunbar

Grade: 12

Corey is the Senior Class President at his school. He is responsible for hosting events for his senior class and for voicing class issues and desires to his administration. He is also a member of Student Government. Corey’s favorite hobbies are photography, volleyball and reading. He enjoys being a member of both the men’s volleyball and basketball teams at school because it challenges him on and off the court.

Megan Rosenberger’s environmental passion began while growing up in Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania after a devastating rainfall flooded her community. She began to work with worldwide organizations to educate her community about rain barrels and their positive impact on pollution and flooding reduction. In 2012, she was awarded the President Obama’s Environmental Youth Award. Megan was also awarded the title of United States Miss Teen Eco 2012 and Miss Teen Earth Pennsylvania 2012. In March 2015, Megan launched her nonprofit, Barrels by the Bay, which brings awareness to the annual United Nations World Water Day, March 22, while educating individuals within the Chesapeake Bay Watershed about water resources. Megan attends the United States Naval Academy. She is a political science (international relations) major and aspires to obtain a graduate degree in environmental policy. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her parents, Jack and Polly, and sister, Liz.

Hala Silverstein

Grade: 4

Hala is a Junior Cadet for Girl Scouts where she has the opportunity to participate in many community projects and learn more about social and civic responsibilities. Hala is also a member of sports teams including soccer, swimming, lacrosse, basketball and field hockey. When she grows up, she hopes to to become a lawyer to help protect people’s rights.

Nushrat is a member of Mu Alpha Theta, the mathematics national honor society. Nushrat received outstanding academic performance for advanced honors courses. She volunteers as an assistant teacher at the Tazkiah Mosque teaching Arabic to younger children.

Matteo is a member of the Kiwanis Club, the Math Team, Model U.N., Cape and the Coral High Young Entrepreneurs’ Club in school. This 6-time Carson Scholar is a member of the Karate Kobayashi Black Belt Team. He participates in karate demonstration through the martial art school to help the community and charitable events. Some events include the St. Andrew Church Festival in Cape Coral, the American Cancer Society Relay for Life held at Mariner High School in Cape Coral and KidsFest at Jaycee park in Cape Coral, to name a few.

Kendall is a member of the Beta Club and the Big Thinkers Science Club at school. He has received numerous sports awards, a leadership award, as well as Principal’s List for academic excellence. This Carson Scholar has won first place in several science fair events at school and is a committed team player.

Michelle Delana
Michelle Delana

City: Wilmette, IL

Grade: 12

Michelle Delana plans to pursue a career in science. When not studying to be in biomedical engineering or the world of medical technology, Michelle enjoys reading, running and playing the piano. Michelle is very involved in school and clubs. Just to name a few, she is part of the Ambassadors Club; Class Leadership Board; Spanish Club; Captain of Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering (WYSE); Mathletes; and in 2014 was inducted into the National Honor Society. A passionate and accomplished piano player for ten years, Michelle has played in numerous talent shows, recitals and festivals. She is a former member of the grade school choir, the Incredibels and a current member of the Overtones, an adult hand bell choir at the Immaculate Conception Parish.

Zirui is the treasurer for the Asian American Club at school. She won first place in the Regional Math Contest with flying colors. Zirui is an active member of the math team, track and field team, as well as the Recycle Club at school which she founded.

Arion Shabani
Arion Shabani

City: Battle Creek, MI

Grade: 5

Arion was nominated as ‘Student of the Month’ every year in school. Arion enjoys building Legos, playing sports and reading. He is also a member of the Awana Club at his church, where he enjoys learning about the Bible in a fun way and playing games with his friends. Arion volunteers for the Southcentral Michigan Food Bank, participates in a Walk for Warmth in Calhoun County and assists with cleaning projects at church.

Madeline Goodson
Madeline Goodson

City: Ann Arbor, MI

Grade: 12

Madeline is the president of the Interact Club at her school, where she participates and plans various community service activities. She is an active member of her a youth group at her church, Young Religious Unitarian Universalists. She was able to go to Appalachia in Kentucky and has worked with Habitat for Humanity. In addition, Madeline teaches nutrition to middle school students through a program called Project Health School and hopes to earn a Ph.D. in physical therapy.

Claire is an honor roll student who was elected the Student Council president by the student body. She is a gifted scholar who prides herself on being a great a leader and communicating well with others. Claire is also a member of the Forensics Team, Yearbook Committee and Dance Committee. She was a finalist for the Paralyzed Veterans of America national essay contest and won the Aspinwall American Legion Post 77 essay contest.

William Kohler

City: Canonsburg, PA

Grade: 12

William enjoys being an Eagle Scout for Troop 1369 of the Boy Scouts of America. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Ski Club, Spanish Club and the Canon-McMillan track and field team. William has completed the Westinghouse Science Honors Institute Program and earned a STEM award as a participant in The Challenge Program.

Syndee Ruff

Grade: 11

Sydnee was honored as the Science Academy Student of the Year at school. She was elected class president on more than one occasion and served as vice president of the Beta Club. Her biggest talents are on the soccer field, where Sydnee has received praises from coaches across the county. Sydnee also enjoys being a National Society of High School Scholars ambassador.

Julian was highly selected to attend a meet and greet for the mayor of Chicago. This Carson Scholar was the spokesman for his school during a recent interview with CNN News Network. He is a proud member of the Floor Hockey Team and the Yearbook Club at school.
