Scholarships

As the school year comes to a close and many of you are deciding on college and determining financial aid, we thought it would be helpful to share with you are scholarship payout process.

Scholarship monies are paid directly to the school and can only be made after verifying that the scholar is a full-time accepted and enrolled student at an accredited institution within the United States for the upcoming semester. Students must be enrolled in a bachelor’s-degree-track (four-year) program.

This past Sunday, nearly 1,400 people gathered for the 17th Annual Maryland Awards Banquet to honor 143 new and 359 recognized Carson Scholars from Maryland and throughout the Mid-Atlantic.  This year’s scholars continue to impress us, and we are very proud of the remarkable work they have achieved.  It was a pleasure being able to meet so many of them this past weekend.

After months of scoring applications, the Carson Scholars Fund is excited to announce the 2013 Carson Scholars!

This year, 425 academic Super Stars have been named Carson Scholars. These students were nominated by their school based on their high academic achievement and commitment to their communities. Also this year, 715 previous scholarship winners have achieved recognition status. These previous scholars have continued to meet the high standards of the Carson Scholars Fund.

Applications for 2013 New and Previous scholars are due this Friday, January 11th, 2013. If you are completing the online application, the student application and teacher recommendation must both be submitted by 5:00 p.m. EST. If you are completing the hard copy application, it must be postmarked by January 11th.

Here are a few helpful hints and tips. As you can imagine, our office is very busy answering questions via phone and email. Please try these trouble-shooting tips first before calling us:

Hard copy applications for the 2013 scholarship season are still available! If you are a school and don’t want to use the online application, there is still time to request a hard copy. Please do so as soon as you can so that the application can be mailed and arrive at your school before winter break.

Every year, the Carson Scholars Fund processes and scores thousands of applications. We could not do this without the help of our dedicated volunteers. Last year, nearly 75 volunteers contributed over 800 hours of service, allowing us to successfully execute another scholarship season and nine scholar awards banquets. According to calculations by the Independent Sector, 800 hours of volunteer service is equivalent to $18,216! We cannot thank our volunteers enough!

We recommend that student/their parents who have already been nominated by their school and/or school officials who have already nominated a student and want to be able to assist their students review this webinar.

As the 2013 scholarship season begins, the Carson Scholars Fund is thrilled to announce the launch of our online application. Starting this year, schools will be able to nominate Carson Scholars, nominated students will be able to complete their application, and past scholars can apply for recognition online. We are sure this new system will make the application process easier, and we can’t wait to get it started.

Payout Request Forms for the Spring 2013 semester have been mailed…and emailed!

In order to receive your scholarship payout for the Spring 2013 semester, your Payout Request Form must be completed in full and mailed back to the Carson Scholars Fund with a postmark deadline of November 21st, 2012. We will be making payouts December 3rd, 2012, in time for the spring semester.
