Meet Carson Scholar Zoé Leader, whose scholarship was generously funded in 2020 by the Israelson Family Endowment.
Zoé credits being part of a community of Carson Scholars the idea of giving back has meant returning to the community that supported her. After graduating as valedictorian from The SEED School of Miami, she returned to serve on its board of directors, bringing her perspective as a former student to decisions that affect that school’s next generation.
Zoé earned the opportunity to study political science at University of Miami on a full cost of attendance Jenkins Scholarship – a scholarship awarded to just three students each year in recognition of their service, academics, and resilience.
During her time in college, she had opportunities to travel and volunteer abroad. In London, she worked with the Felix Project to address food insecurity. In Barcelona, she volunteered with organizations whose missions surrounded supporting people with disabilities as well as displaced immigrants. Those experiences helped solidify her interest in international human rights. After graduating from UM in May, she’s now applying to law school with that mission in mind.
Reflecting on her Carson Scholar experience, Zoé shared, “Being a Carson Scholar allowed for me to fully realize the impact that service could have on different communities.”
Thank you for keeping us updated, Zoé! We’re excited to cheer you on during your journey through law school and beyond.
Has volunteering ever changed what you wanted to do for a career? We’d love to hear your story.
