John Vingsen
Senior Vice President / COO
MidPoint Technology Group
Can you share a bit about your professional background and your current role?
Shortly after college I started working with AT&T in enterprise networking sales. After several years in that role, I migrated to the operational side and helped integrate several divisions within AT&T during the transition from a fiber-based company to the wireless rebranded company you know today. After 13 years at AT&T, I left to work for a local Maryland IT integration company. It was there that I was mentored by two very successful entrepreneurs on all the aspects of the business. Eight years later I joined my current business partner and CSF Board Member, Dave Kaspary at MidPoint Technology Group serving as the company’s Chief Operating Officer. Seven years later we now have a national company employing over 250 full time teammates servicing some of the worlds largest Data Center Hyperscale Clients with offices in Columbia Maryland, Phoenix Arizona and Hermiston Oregon
What motivated you to become a member of the CSF Board of Directors, and what accomplishments during your time on the board stand out to you?
I knew I wanted to join the organization after being invited by current board member Ryan Miller, to play in his annual golf tournament to benefit Carson Scholars Fund. Hearing Dr. Carson and Mrs. Carson speak so passionately on the mission to uplift and provide recognition to young academic achievers had me hooked. The mission of the organization really hit home knowing how important reading has been to me and my professional growth.
What has been the most rewarding challenge you’ve faced in your career?
Being able to navigate and grow our business during the unprecedented events around the pandemic will always stand out to me as a challenge faced and conquered. While many were reducing their workforce and shutting their doors, we found ways to keep all our employees working and actually grew our business.
What is one industry trend or innovation you’re excited about right now?
Artificial Intelligence (AI) must be the one thing that is top of mind for many currently. My company is on the forefront working to construct facilities to keep up with the forward-looking vision of the world’s largest companies racing to support AI computing. While we are only in a small supporting role, it is still an amazing feeling to be a part of what may be the largest and fastest technological advances the world has ever seen.
