Have you ever wondered what an opera is like?
Have you ever wondered what an opera is like? Or been front row at a ballet? Or participated in an intergenerational discussion? If this interests you and you are a first-year Honors Community College student and Pell Grant recipient, consider pre-applying to Community Compact to be a Summer Scholar at Chautauqua.
Each summer, Community Compact hosts 24 Honors students to participate in an all-expenses-paid, week-long program where they live and eat together, attend lectures and cultural events, and expand their social capital by meeting lots of new people.
As a past Summer Scholar, I can attest to the wonders Chautauqua holds. At the Institute, I participated a poetry workshop hosted by published authors, viewings of independent films, visited several local art museums, and even thrifted in the weekly flea market in the heart of Chautauqua. And if you are interested in transferring to a 4-year university, there are several Community Compact transfer coaches excited to help and advise you along the way. If you are interested in expanding your horizons, the pre-application portal is now open. Visit https://www.communitycompact.org/summer-scholar/ for more details and consider pre-applying to the Summer Scholars program.
As Carson Scholars yourselves, I have no doubt that each and every one of you who qualify would be a fantastic addition to the richness of Chautauqua. For further questions, you can also reach out to Beth Miller at beth@communitycompact.org.
