San Marcos Unified School District, in conjunction with The Carson Scholars Fund, celebrated the third school in the district to open a Think Big Reading Room on Friday, October 18. Knob Hill Elementary, in San Marcos, CA, dedicated a section of their library to the school’s new reading space that is equipped with student-friendly furniture and hundreds of high-interest books. At the grand opening celebration, Principal Trujillo welcomed students and distinguished guests and spoke about the generosity of the Carson Scholars Fund and Eleni and Wolfgang Gagon, the reading room sponsors. Kindness awards and reading achievement awards were handed out which created an excitement about the soon-to-be revealed reading space. School Librarian and Reading Room Project Lead, Ms. Bliss, shared how impactful this project had been and how students are well on their way to becoming veracious readers. A fifth grade student read her poem, Adventures with Books, to the audience which captured hearts and imaginations. The school gathering was rounded of by a select number of students singing I Like a Good Story, which guests were humming soon thereafter.
