High School Graduation Year: 2014
Year First Awarded the Carson Scholarship: 2008

Adleena is an Army Woman Veteran and two-time Carson Scholar who was first awarded in 2008. Today, she is studying at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), where she will earn her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with a minor in Interdisciplinary Studies.

Shortly after graduating from Ben Davis High School in 2014, Adleena joined the U.S. Army and bravely served our country as a Motor Transport Operator. Following her military experience, she worked in the health care sector learning many different skills through multiple positions. She is a very disciplined individual who enjoys helping others through public service.

With a goal of becoming an attorney, Adleena holds herself to high standards of discipline, and finds passion in helping others through public service. She shared with us that in her time at UTEP so far, she’s had the opportunity to take some very interesting classes. Some of these classes include introduction to Criminal Justice, Criminal Law, Ethics in Criminal Justice, and more.

Outside of the classroom, Adleena enjoys traveling and has been to many places across the U.S. as well as Turkey and Spain. The quote that Adleena lives by is, “Live in the honor of waking up each day!” Her favorite song is “Tonight” by John Legend, and her favorite movie is “Focus” with Will Smith.

When she was in sixth grade, Adleena’s family moved from a country town in Indiana to the city of Indianapolis. This was a difficult time for her, so she turned to books and sports to help her through the tough time. Adleena’s favorite book is “Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry” by Mildred D. Taylor and her favorite book series is Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling.
