Gabe, a 2-time Carson Scholar, is committed to uniting communities, finding and sharing hope in challenging times and uplifting and connecting with others. These values were highlighted through his time serving as the Notre Dame Leprechaun during his undergraduate career – a role that only 56 others have ever held. While at Notre Dame, Gabe also performed in the Glee Club and Opera, giving him a creative outlet in which to serve as an ambassador of positivity. As the founder of the nonprofit Ortus Inc., he has worked to impact the lives of unhoused and disadvantaged individuals by assembling and distributing thousands of personal care packages to homeless women and unhoused veterans. These projects laid the groundwork for Gabe serving in his current position as a member of the University of Virginia School of Medicine’s Homeless Consult Service, through which he supports homeless patients as they approach hospital discharge. Gabe also serves as the leader of the Anatomical Donor Convocation of Gratitude – an event to thank families and remember the anatomical donors who contributed their bodies to medical education at UVA. Gabe earned a bachelor’s degree from Notre Dame University and is currently a medical student at the University of Virginia. He intends to become a cardiac surgeon and provide a place where patients and their families know security and trust and feel understood, heard and supported.
