Miguel Iglesias

Miguel, a 3-time Carson Scholar, is dedicated to making STEM education more inclusive to all.  During his undergraduate career, Miguel developed a cost-effective, simple method to convert 2D images found in science textbooks to 3D prints. These prints can be interpreted by touch alone and are designed to assist people who are blind or visually impaired in pursuing education in a STEM discipline. Miguel currently volunteers as a tutor for young, incarcerated men who are pursuing associate’s degrees through Princeton’s Prison Teaching Initiative. He also seeks to promote inclusivity in his workplace as a member of the Climate for All Committee. Miguel earned a bachelor’s degree from Baylor University as a science research fellow, concentrating in biochemistry and minoring in statistics, where he was a student in the honors program. He is currently a PhD student in quantitative and computational biology at Princeton University. In his spare time, he can often be found in the kitchen baking cheesecakes, a hobby that also helps make him a better scientist.
