Edgewood ES Unveils New Ben Carson Reading Room!
Dr. Seuss once wrote “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” That message is being reinforced in the Ben Carson Reading Room at Edgewood Elementary School. On December 2, 2015 the school unveiled its newly remodeled Ben Carson Reading Room featuring Dr. Seuss décor.
In the 2011-2012 school year, students read 27,600 minutes in their Ben Carson Reading Room. Coordinators at the school said, “The teachers have found that students that might not want to read in a classroom will more readily read in the reading room. Anytime a child reads especially if it is voluntary they get a little closer to their lifetime goals.”
The Edgewood Elementary School Reading room sponsored by Stack & Store opened on October 15, 2003. They hosted many unique programs including PTA reading programs, Dr. Seuss’ Birthday celebration, and a summer reading program.
