Ben Carson/Think Big Reading Project
315 reading rooms and counting…
The Ben Carson/Think Big Reading Project
This program helps schools create inviting reading rooms where children can discover the joy of independent reading. These cozy, literacy-rich spaces are designed to make books exciting and accessible for every child.
What Is a Reading Room?
- A dedicated welcoming space in schools that inspire a love of reading
- A room filled with hundreds of engaging books for diverse interests
- A place that encourages students to build confidence and lifelong literacy skills
Why Reading Rooms Matter?
- Over 3 million minutes of reading logged in rooms across the country
- Home to more than 157,000 books helping students discover the joy of reading
- Over $4.5 million invested in advancing literacy and student success
What Does it Take to Build a Reading Room?
- Establish a partnership with generous donors and dedicated schools
- Schools are selected based on need, available space and committed staff
- 90-120 days to complete the room from start to finish

No reading rooms match your selection.
How do I bring this to my school?
Schools interested in being considered for a Ben Carson Reading Room must be accredited, commit to maintaining the reading room for a minimum of five years, and have both the space and personnel to plan, design, and implement the literacy initiative. Applications are accepted year-round and will be kept on file. If your school meets these criteria and would like to be considered for a reading room, please have a member of the school’s leadership team or designated school official complete the reading room application.
Not sure where to start? We’ve got you covered.
Find the information most relevant to you by selecting the path that best suits your needs.
