The Hall’s Cross Roads Elementary School sponsored by Louis & Phyllis Friedman was the first Ben Carson Reading Room. This prototype room in Harford County has been the model for subsequent Reading Rooms. Dr. Carson hosted this inaugural Reading Room Opening with local educators and community leaders.
Under the direction of Family Liaison, Shanda Coley, this room continues to thrive. A few times a week, parents are invited to bring a bagged lunch and read with their children. Ms. Coley also provides handouts to the parents with tips to help the children become better readers.
