Hall of Fame Spotlight on Emily Bock

We are thrilled to feature another amazing member of our Hall of Fame. Emily Bock, inducted into the CSF’s Hall of Fame in 2016, enthusiastically jumped at the chance to share the love she has for her historic school, Georgetown University. She shared two pictures with us that can only showcase a small fraction of the beautiful campus. Read on to learn more about Emily!

Q – What made you choose your university?

A – Cliché as it may sound it’s true, from the moment I stepped foot onto Georgetown’s Campus, I just knew. I remember driving along the Potomac river before reaching the Key Bridge and upon spotting Healy on the Hilltop, I said out loud “Oh my gosh, it’s Hogwarts!” The campus, the architecture and the surrounding neighborhood of Georgetown was beautiful.

Beyond the exterior beauty, I was incredibly drawn to the global diversity of students and professors and the Jesuit tradition at the University. Division 1 lacrosse initially drew me to Georgetown, but it was the quality of the education and emphasis on educating the whole person that ultimately made me commit.

Q – What’s one thing that makes your university special?

A – Location. Georgetown is an unbelievably beautiful and historic neighborhood with immediate access to nature, unique shopping, diverse restaurants and all the metropolitan conveniences of being located within our Nation’s Capital. I loved being able to go for long runs along the Potomac River and through various Memorials on the Mall.

Q – If you could have coffee with any famous person, dead or alive, who would you choose and why?

A – I’d love a coffee with Amelia Earhart and a cocktail with Queen Elizabeth II. Amelia’s sense of adventure, tomboy beginnings and love of writing and aviation resonate very strongly with me. As the longest-reigning British monarch and the world’s longest-serving female head of state, I can only begin to imagine the wisdom and perspective Queen Elizabeth II has to share.

Q – What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

“If better is possible, good is not enough.” My club soccer coach Katherine Vettori, one of the most influential mentors I’ve ever had, once said that to our team during a practice and it flipped a switch in my brain. Since then, I have tried to apply that mentality to every aspect of my life. In doing so, I have never stopped trying to beat my own personal records or exceed my own expectations.

A – What would your superpower be and why?

Q – This I can’t deny, the ability to fly. Traveling is my guilty pleasure. I LOVE exploring new places, cuisines and cultures. There simply aren’t enough vacation days or dollars to see them all!
