San Diego County Welcomes Another Think Big Reading Room in Warner Elementary
Warner Elementary became our 28th active reading room in San Diego County following their opening on February 3rd. The reading room was made possible by the Think Big Reading Room donors, Eleni and Wolfgang Gagon. As you step inside the reading room, you are welcomed by books from beloved children’s book authors like Dr. Seuss, Stan and Jan Berenstain, and Dav Pilkey. The primary color theme is accentuated by the brightly colored bean bag chairs, floor cushions, and wall posters. The whole school was buzzing with excitement as they awaited the afternoon celebration. The reading room opening ceremony started with the Pledge of Allegiance and Welcome led by Sabrina Finn, Library Media Technician and reading room liaison. The superintendent, David MacLeod, also attended, and followed with a speech about the importance of reading. After Mr. MacLeod’s speech, students took to the stage. One student read “I Opened a Book” by Julia Donaldson, and a few students from the third and fourth grade class shared their favorite books. Candy Carson participated in the opening ceremony, and gave a wonderful speech that moved the audience. After the program, everyone was invited to join for the ribbon cutting and a tour of the reading room.
