There’s only one thing Villa Cresta students like as much as reading – and that’s ice cream! On Thursday, May 23rd, forty three students gathered in the school cafeteria for an old fashioned ice cream social to celebrate their reading accomplishments. In order to be invited to the ice cream social, each student had to read for a minimum of 5,000 minutes independently during the school year. Forty three students rose to the challenge and were treated to a scoop of ice cream along with their favorite toppings. In addition, students were allowed to select a book to take home to become part of their personal library. Congratulations Villa Cresta readers on another successful school year.
2012 Update: Students at Villa Cresta logged over 132,550 minutes of leisure reading!
The Villa Cresta Reading Room sponsored by Black & Decker was opened on November 8, 2005. This was the first school to host a full school assembly for local dignitaries, community parents and students.
The 2007-2008 school year was very successful for the Ben Carson Reading Room at Villa Cresta Elementary School. This year, over 73 students were able to reach Level 10, the highest reading level possible. In order to achieve this goal, each student was required to read for a minimum of 5,000 minutes. To reward their accomplishments, the students were treated to an outdoor Pizza Party.
