Cordell Carter II
Founding Executive Director
The Aspen Institute
What is your background? What is your current occupation?
My background is a mix of tech, philanthropy and policy. I am transitioning out of a 7 year run as Executive Director of the Aspen Institute Socrates Program and will be focusing on a national campaign around the notion of Belonging as the new narrative around which we all can be united.
When and why did you join the CSF Board of Directors? Do you have a favorite part of being a member?
I recently joined the CSF Board of Directors and joined because our country needs to replicate excellence and humility, the values and characteristics I most associate with Dr. and Mrs. Carson.
What advice do you have for someone who is only just starting their professional career?
Focus on the present (the past is gone and the future is an illusion), determine what “excellence” is for your role at your organization and when given the choice between adventure and conventional, before the age of 35 years, choose adventure as it will make you a more interesting 40 year old.
What’s the last book you read?
My own, Becoming an Inclusive Republic. It is in pre-sale campaign right now! Click here
