Keiller Leadership Academy in San Diego, CA, joined our 200 plus reading room school partners in May when the team cut the ribbon to their brand new Think Big Reading Room. The woodland forest-themed reading space sits prominently in the school’s library and is decorated with lively green trees and plants, bucket seats, and log cushions and pads. The best part, of course, is the hundreds of high-interest books that appeal to the school’s kindergarten through eighth grade students. Keiller Leadership Academy’s team put on a show for the unveiling as the school’s hip-hop dance team displayed a few choreographed performances that celebrated the excitement of reading. Next, a 2019 Carson Scholar took the stage and expressed how much the Carson Scholars Fund has transformed her life. Going through personal hardship, the young scholar expressed that going to the Think Big Reading Room to read for fun after school is just the therapy she needs before returning home. A warm and special appreciation was given to the Gagons, whose generous donation continues to touch thousands of students in California.
