“We are the Future, We have the Power” that is the song that rang out in the auditorium at Belmont Elementary School on December 16, 2008 as the school prepared to open its Ben Carson Reading Room. The celebration started with a school assembly attended by Brooke Hodges, Bank of America Senior Vice President and Market Development Manager and Mrs. Candy Carson. After the assembly, guests were whisked off to the Reading Room to cut the ribbon and officially open the room.
Once inside the room, the guests and students were in awe. Lining the bookshelves are hundreds of books. Big red bins, filled with books allow the younger students to see the bright book covers instead of the narrow spines. Overstuffed couches and reading nooks serve as an inviting place for the students to relax and read their favorite stories. Picturesque scenes from the Baltimore Inner Harbor, Conservatory and Camden Yards adorn the walls of the Reading Room. The Belmont Reading Room is the third room in Baltimore City to be sponsored by Bank of America (see Arlington Elementary/Middle School and Wolfe Street Academy). Thank you Bank of America for your commitment to education.
