“It’s a small world after all” inside the Colfax Elementary Library, where the new Ben Carson Reading Room resides. A massive Reading Room banner greets students at the door. Photos representing countries around the globe dangle from the ceiling, reminding students to THINK BIG in their native language. Students can select a book and cozy into a back jack chair on the colorful international rug. Dr. Ben Carson appears to be watching the Colfax student readers from his nearby poster. This cultural haven is a reflection of the diverse Colfax school community and an ideal reading spot. Special thanks to Principal Joanna Martinez and Librarian Debra Greening for creating a reading culture at Colfax.
The Colfax Elementary School Ben Carson Reading Room opened on October 18, 2011. Colfax is one of five Denver Reading Rooms, all opening on the same day! These five rooms are also the first Ben Carson Reading Rooms in the state of Colorado.
The Colfax Elementary School Reading Room was sponsored primarily by the Richard Lumsden Foundation.
