kids readingAnother sunny day in the Woodlawn area of Baltimore, MD had the school officials, students and community attendees gathered in their multipurpose room.  To start the program Principal Betty Pettiford quieted the casual conversation with her signature question “All set?” to which several hundred students responded in unison with a decisive “You bet!” After greeting everyone with a charming smile, she introduced all of the special guests, including school board members and a former assistant principal. Dr. Catherine Allie, Assistant Superintendent for Zone 1 elementary schools followed with comments on the THINK BIG philosophy, and when she asked the students if they could read all 500 books that would be in the new room, the resounding “yes” almost broke the sound barrier!
