Franklin Square Elementary/Middle is the site of one of the newest Ben Carson Reading Rooms. On Friday October 23rd 2009, the school and community representatives converged to celebrate the occasion. The eighth grade student body president capably emceed the program in the auditorium, packed with well behaved students. Ms. Brooke Hodges, Senior Vice President of Bank of America was on hand again for this Ben Carson Reading Room opening, the fourth sponsored by Bank of America.
After the ceremony, we adjourned to the actual site of the special room and discovered a deep-sea experience that made one feel as though they could “roll with the waves” as they relaxed with a book. Marine blue walls sported many varieties of fish as well as deep sea flora. Even the curtains covering the windows and closets had colorful fish swimming leisurely through the waving seaweed!
On hand were Baltimore news channels WBAL, WBFF, WJZ, and WMAR to chronicle the auspicious occasion. Students were enthralled with the relaxed and comfortable environment, and were quickly able to choose books that escorted them to other worlds!
