mural 2The Carson Scholars Fund is proud to announce the opening of our 138th reading room! The newest room celebrated its grand opening on Monday, January 11, 2016 at Lookout Valley Elementary School in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Lookout Valley’s reading room is the third room funded by The Deaver-Phoenix Foundation. Other rooms funded by The Deaver-Phoenix Foundation are in Reeves-Rogers Elementary School and Northfield Elementary School, both located in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The relaxing atmosphere of the Lookout Valley reading room invites students to settle in with a good book. Artist Gale Hinton’s mural provides readers with a peaceful and enchanted forest atmosphere where students are surrounded by a lake, a castle and a cottage with mountains in the background. The mural includes a painted message to remind students that, “The Doors of the World are Open to Those Who Read!”
