DC-Metro Chapter Receives Verizon Foundation Grant!


Congratulations to Dr. Roy Heron and his team at the DC-Metro Chapter of the Carson Scholars Fund for receiving a $10,000 grant from Verizon Foundation. The monies will be used to support the CSF Scholarship and Reading Room programs at T. C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia. Chapter President, Dr. Heron, states he is “delighted that the DC-Metro Chapter of Carson Scholars Fund has been able to achieve its significant goals for T.C. Williams High this year, thanks to the tremendous support of Verizon.”

Dr. Roy Heron and his wife Barbara have taken it upon themselves to begin a chapter of the Carson Scholars Fund dedicated to serving the public and private schools in Washington, D.C. Efforts to gain awareness and supporters in the community have not gone unnoticed. Dr. Heron reports the addition of 38 community members who have shown a dedication to education by pledging to join his efforts in rewarding excellence in D.C.’s youth!

Civil Rights activist and businessman Nelson Greene, Sr. (3rd from left) is the recipient of the 2010 Trailblazer Award presented by the Carson Scholars Fund DC-Metro Chapter. Mr. Greene received the award for his visionary and leadership roles in civil rights organizations which worked politically to make things better for African- Americans in Alexandria, the State of Virginia and our Nation. Joining him are (left to right) Chapter President, Dr. Roy Heron and his wife Barbara, fellow honoree, Jack Olender, and Dr. and Mrs. Ben Carson.


Carson Scholars Fund, DC-Metro Chapter, honored preeminent Washington, DC lawyer, Jack Olender with its Humanitarian Award at the Chapter’s 2010 Gala. Mr. Olender received the award for “his tireless dedication to the welfare of the citizens of Washington through advocacy and philanthropy.”  Pictured ( left to right),  are Dr. Roy Heron, Chapter President, Jack Olender, Humanitarian Award recipient, and Dr. and Mrs. Ben Carson.
