Yesterday, the Ben Carson Reading Room at Gwynn’s Falls Elementary School hosted a family reading night. This event allowed families and educators to come together to enjoy the fun, comfortable environment that the reading room provides.

Another New Reading Room Rocks!

Strong Elementary Reading RoomThe first Ben Carson Reading Room in the state of Connecticut opened at Strong Elementary School on Orchard St. in New Haven.  The morning was not too early for the students to exercise the school motto of “Strong Hands, Strong Minds at Strong School.”

Strong Elementary School in New Haven, Connecticut has been busy working on its new Ben Carson Reading Room. The new reading room which is the second reading room sponsored by Dr. and Mrs. Donald Janower will open on Friday, April 5th. The Strong Elementary Reading Room appropriately has the theme, “Strong Hands, Strong Minds.”

New Technology in Gwynns Falls Reading Room

Through the generosity of the Verizon Foundation, state-of-the-art technology is now incorporated in the Ben Carson Reading Room at Gwynns Falls Elementary School. This morning, students and distinguished guests gathered for a rededication ceremony to kick off the pilot program. With the addition of iPads, e-readers, and an interactive white board, students now have the capability to enhance their learning experience.

Reading Room Updates

There have been a lot of exciting things happening with our reading room program!

The Denver Reading Rooms are open!

Today, the Carson Scholars Fund successfully opened five new reading rooms in the Denver area thanks to support from the Richard Lumsden Foundation. The new Reading Rooms are:

Gearing up for Ben Carson Reading Day

On Monday, October 8th, Ben Carson Reading Room Coordinators gathered for the Annual Ben Carson Reading Room Workshop and Webinar.

The evening began with updates from reading rooms across the country. Librarian and book reviewer, Paula Willey was on hand to share high-interest books aimed at engaging the most reluctant readers. Ben Carson Reading Rooms to open in three HISD schools

Through the generosity of The Hearst Foundations, three Ben Carson Reading Rooms will be opening at schools in the Houston Independent School District. The three schools are:  Clemente Martinez Elementary School, Looscan Elementary School, and Jefferson Elementary School. These schools were selected for their enthusiasm toward literacy, strong leadership, and motivation to achieve.  

Alexandria, VA Gets Excited About Reading!

The 3rd Annual Alexandria Story Festival was held this past Saturday, September 15th at T.C. Williams High School. Students from the Alexandria area had the opportunity to meet authors, listen to stories, visit the school’s Ben Carson Reading Room, play games, make crafts, and have fun with their family and friends.  Book totes provided by the Verizon Foundation made it easy for participants to carry their literacy and reading “goodies” around the festival. 

7th Annual Ben Carson Reading Day

The 7th Annual Ben Carson Reading Day will be held on Monday, November 12th.  Ben Carson Reading Day is an annual literacy event held each November in conjunction with American Education Week.  This national day of reading, supported by Staples, is designed to raise awareness on the importance of everyday leisure reading.
